The first step in creating a Survivor, the character the player takes on, is choosing their race. The first edition of the game gave players the ability to choose one of three options: human (like us), many of whom no longer remember the times before the Long Winter, determined, stubborn dwarves and naiym'vael filled with regret and thirst for revenge. In the second edition, this list is expanded with two new races - clever gnomes with maniacal tendencies and powerfully built ogres that inspire fear and respect with their size (and stench).
Each race has its own unique characteristics, including differences in physical structure, mental predispositions and cultural elements. Thanks to this, choosing race can already give the player some clues about playing the character in the session.
The choice of race is also associated with the possibility of selecting one of the Talents unique to its representatives.
Gnomes - small in body, but resourceful, clever, devoting themselves to the tasks before them with great commitment. Racial persecution caused most of them to move to the south of the Continent or leave the Alepin before the War. The return of the Force and the intrusion of the Anomaly into our reality awakened extraordinary, supernatural abilities in the surviving gnomes.
Dwarves - Proud, stubborn, pragmatic, and hard-working, the dwarves quickly recovered from the Long Night, creating settlements that became the Forge Towns. Despite knowing that they may be the last representatives of their race, they persist in their efforts to restore the former order and civilization. In many regions they managed to dominate trade and industry, strengthening their position.
Humans - the most common group of survivors on the Continent, with the well-known advantages and disadvantages. Humans adapt quickly to new situations, and many of them were born after the Blast or the Long Night and have no memories or knowledge of the lost world.
Naiym'vael - remnants of the proud elven race. The Blast and destruction of the regions they inhabited pushed the elves to the brink of madness. Grieving and eager for revenge on those they believe caused this tragedy, they live in wandering, nomadic groups called Families. They possess extraordinary abilities that allow them to communicate with the dead and control the Force.
Ogres - Before the Blast they were a small group on the Continent. Now there are even fewer of them left, but meeting them certainly leaves an unforgettable impression. Large in stature, powerfully built and strong, they found their place in a world where brutal, ruthless force can decide about survival. An angry and hungry ogre can dominate almost any opponent.
